Pine Hills Hangars

Building for the Future

The Pine Hills Hangars were designed with a long-term commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and responsible development. From site selection and construction materials to water conservation, energy performance, and indoor environmental quality, every aspect of the project reflects a thoughtful approach to reducing environmental impact while supporting the future of aviation.

Previously Developed Site

Built on a previously developed site at Hanscom Air Field, helping preserve untouched green spaces and natural habitats.

32%+ Energy Reduction

High-performance systems, mechanical design, and an optimized building envelope contribute to energy reduction exceeding 32% compared to standard buildings of similar size and function.

Healthier Indoor Air

Advanced ventilation, continuous indoor air quality monitoring, and high air exchange rates support a healthier and more comfortable environment.

Responsible Site Development

The Pine Hills Hangars were built on a previously developed site at Hanscom Air Field, helping preserve untouched green spaces and natural habitats. As part of the ongoing redevelopment of the Hanscom property - a designated brownfield site - soils and groundwater are carefully evaluated and remediated as needed, contributing to the long-term environmental health of the surrounding area.

The project also supports alternative transportation and reduced vehicle impact through a significant reduction in parking compared to standard code requirements, proximity to walking and biking trails, access to public transportation, and the inclusion of electric vehicle charging stations.

Energy and Building Performance

The Pine Hills Hangars were designed to significantly outperform comparable facilities in energy efficiency. High-performance building systems, careful mechanical design, and an optimized building envelope contribute to an energy reduction exceeding 32% compared to standard buildings of similar size and function.

To ensure systems operate as intended, the building was fully commissioned by independent engineering professionals who verified the performance of energy, water, and building envelope systems.

Healthier Indoor Environments

The hangars were designed to support high indoor environmental quality through advanced ventilation and continuous indoor air quality monitoring. High air exchange rates throughout the building help create a healthier and more comfortable environment for occupants while maintaining strong overall energy performance.

Designed for Today. Built for What's Next.

Together, these strategies helped position the Pine Hills Hangars as a high-performance facility designed to serve both operational needs and environmental responsibility for years to come.
